Role of soil testing
Foundation is one of the essential stages in the construction of a building. A small mistake in laying the foundation can result in the collapse of the whole building. It is the foundation of the building which protects it from the sudden emerging forces in the soil/subsoil. It ensures that the load-bearing function is being performed smoothly. The soil should have all the chemical and physical qualities which are necessary to bear the weight of the building. This is because the level of humidity within the foundation is settled based on this information. The information about the soil movements & the behaviour of soil in the absence and presence of water is essential to know about. For example, if the soil is sandy, then the chances are that it will have more movement than the clay soil. Some factors affect the soil quality very much, such as the presence of weeds, removal of the vegetation, or the old trees.
Kinds of Soil Tests
There are various kinds of soil tests that are conducted to test different variables of the given sample. For example, a moisture content sample is conducted to measure the water or moisture content of the soil, and dry density test helps in categorizing the soil based on density where soil density testing equipment is used. A specific gravity test is another test, which measures the degree of saturation in the soil. Apart from these tests, the compaction test is also a type aimed at determining the compaction characteristics of soil reducing air voids. Thus, there are various soil tests aimed at measuring the different characteristics of the soil.
